BRUSSELS – Last Friday afternoon, members of the Tigray community in the Netherlands were received at the Embassy of Ethiopia in Brussels for a formal meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and his diplomatic colleagues.
The purpose of the meeting was to address the critical situation in the Tigray region and to hand over an official petition outlining five essential demands from the diaspora community. The discussions were held in a constructive and formal atmosphere.
During the session, the members explicitly urged the Ethiopian government to take immediate action on the following key issues:
- Constitutional Obligations: Upholding the Ethiopian Constitution to guarantee the safety and security of all citizens in Tigray.
- Basic Services: Restoring and securing unimpeded access to public services and basic needs, ensuring civilians are entirely insulated from political conflicts.
- Territorial Integrity & IDPs: Restoring Tigray’s constitutional boundaries and facilitating the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their homes.
- Conflict Prevention: Exercising all possible efforts to prevent further devastating military conflicts in the region.
- Democratic Governance: Ensuring full participation of the people of Tigray in upcoming elections to establish a functional regional parliament and an elected government.
Ambassador Eshete Tilahun and his team took note of the community’s serious concerns and accepted the petition. The Tigray community in the Netherlands remains deeply committed to monitoring the progress of these critical matters and will continue to advocate for lasting peace, justice, and stability for our people back home.
We extend our gratitude to all community members for their ongoing support and dedication.
